Digital Learning Now! Statement on Georgia’s Digital Learning Task Force

WASHINGTON – On April 30, 2012, Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal signed an executive order creating a task force to implement digital learning in Georgia’s K-12 schools. Since November 2012, the Digital Learning Task Force has engaged a wide variety of innovators, experts, and educators to develop a framework for using digital learning efforts to improve academic achievement by empowering teachers and providing a personalized experience to students. Today, the Digital Learning Task Force released its final recommendations, with a focus on three key areas: infrastructure, digital content and courses, and blended and competency-based learning.

John Bailey, executive director of Digital Learning Now!, released the following statement:

“The Digital Learning Task Force has provided a roadmap for strengthening the educational opportunities for Georgia students. The Task Force challenges the state to fully embrace competency-based education and blended learning models. Their final recommendations include providing schools with the connectivity needed to support next-generation models of learning. The report released today provides a foundation for the state to launch a bold agenda toward a student-centric approach to learning that prepares each student for college and career.”
